I love all makeup – eyeshadow, blush, mascara, foundation. You name it, I’m obsessed. But, there’s something about lipstick that makes it so much fun to shop for, wear, and post about it. Maybe it’s because lipstick can change or add a punch to a look so much?
My everyday makeup is a full face, but pretty simple: primer, foundation/BB cream/CC cream, concealer, powder, brow powder and gel, bronzer, blush, highlighter, and mascara. Since I don’t do full eye makeup for day-to-day, what I wear on my lips is the main way I add some variety to my look.
Although I sometimes want a juicy, glossy lip, I reach for lipstick 95% of the time – no matter the season. I hopped on board the liquid lipstick train and haven’t gotten off yet, but in the 100+ degree heat that is Texas summer, a matte formula that sucks the life out of my lips isn’t the most comfortable option. And what’s summer if it’s not light, comfortable, dewy, and COLORFUL? That’s what I look for in a lipstick this time of year.
So, here are the 5 lipsticks I haven’t stopped wearing this summer, from least to most expensive.
(P.S. I wear all of these alone (not layered), but I’m pretty sure they’d play well with lip liners if you chose to wear them that way. During the summer, I’m all about less layers, so I pretty much never reach for a lip liner unless I’m wearing it as a one-product lip look. I usually layer my lips (liner, then lipstick/gloss) in the fall and winter. It’s all personal preference; find what works for you!)
Product Description: Treat your lips to a kiss of smooth, creamy color with our irresistible Butter Lipsticks in 12 new luscious shades. The formula’s delicate satin texture fused with highly saturated color delivers full-yet-lightweight coverage with a luxurious satin finish.
I’ve been a fan of the NYX Butter Gloss for quite some time (I have the shades maple blondie, strawberry parfait, eclair, angel food cake, and cherry cheesecake), so I couldn’t wait to swatch the lipstick formula on a visit to the new(ish) NYX store at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco, TX. I’m so glad I did!
The formula is opaque and full coverage, but so moisturizing and comfortable. It goes on like a dream – even and not streaky at all – and lasts for quite a while considering its creaminess. There’s so much color payoff, too. I think it actually stains my lips a little bit, which makes the color appear to last even longer!
This is the only hot pink I’ve worn for the past several months (and probably the only one I’ll want to wear for a while). You can’t beat a bold hot pink lip with dewy skin and lots of lashes during the summer! Or, like, anytime really.
I will definitely purchase this lipstick in other shades when I can convince myself to stop wearing this one. Oh, and you can’t beat the price tag! $4.55-6.50 (depending on where you buy it)? COME ON! Gotta love great drugstore finds.

This lipstick lives up to its description and claims to a T! I originally bought this lipstick because every beauty influencer I follow was raving about it. I chose the coral color because summer = orange lips, and I haven’t stopped wearing it since. If I’m not sure what to wear and an orange lip is appropriate/works with the rest of my makeup and outfit, this is what I grab for. It’s comfortable (not drying at all considering it’s a matte liquid lipstick) and stays put for several hours. It’s probably my most-worn lipstick of the summer.
Although I don’t normally line my lips when I wear this (see above), I’ve used a liner with Rebel Rose (this line’s mauve-y rose color), which is beautiful and perfect and the same exact formula as Coral Corruption but a little too dark for my summer taste. You better believe I’ll be wearing it all.fall.long, though. I also have Pink Really Hard, which is a bubblegum-Barbie pink that I had high hopes for but ended up being streaky, patchy, peely and nothing like the other two shades I have.
Thanks to Young Wild and Polished‘s recommendation, I also have my eye on Flame Of The Game, and I’ll probably pick up a few more colors at some point. At $4.99, you should, too! I got mine at Target and Walgreens.
Product Description: Prepare to get hooked. Vice Lipstick comes in a massive lineup of 100 addictive shades and six indulgent finishes—our biggest lineup yet!
Our shade range has it all: Bold brights. Dark, sexy shades. Super-versatile neutrals. With so much variety it’ll make your head spin, there’s something for everyone—from new shades to cult favorites you thought you’d never see again. Several shades were inspired by some of our other lip products (and even our Eyeshadows and Eye Pencils!).
Our huge assortment also includes more finishes than ever before:
MEGA MATTE: super-intense matte
COMFORT MATTE: our creamiest matte
CREAM: the original: creamy, badass luxury
METALLIZED: cream with a high level of pearl
SHEER: a punch of color with a sheer, shiny finish
SHEER SHIMMER: slightly transparent finish with floating pearl and a smooth texture
The pigment load in Vice Lipstick is insane! Just one swipe provides an unbelievable laydown of color. And every shade applies smoothly (without dragging or skipping), hugs lips, and feels amazing! Our proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ gives the formula its super-creamy texture, rich payout and superior color dispersion.
This creamy formula is loaded with nourishing ingredients. A yummy butter blend comforts, hydrates and enhances, leaving lips soft and conditioned, never dry. Aloe vera, jojoba, avocado and babassu oils nourish and soften lips. Illipe butter (derived from Malaysian illipe trees) provides long-lasting moisture. And Vitamin C and vitamin E provide a hit of antioxidants.
Vice Lipstick comes in a modernized, luxed-up version of our original lipstick case that looked like a shotgun shell. It’s new, but speaks to our roots. The faceted gunmetal case has a gold base and debossed lettering, and our custom-designed lipstick features an embossed “UD.” We even added a shade-matched label (including the shade name and finish) to make it easy to find the right color within the depths of your bag.
I love Urban Decay – especially their eyeshadows and setting sprays. The Naked 2 palette was the first high-end makeup item I ever purchased, and I will hold onto it forever because 1) it’s good, and 2) it was my gateway drug. But, I have never been quick to reach for their lip products for no real reason other than that I’ve never been sucked in by them when wandering through Ulta and Sephora.
I actually won this lipstick during a raffle at a meetup in Dallas hosted by YouTuber Dani from Coffee Break With Dani! It was so nice that Dani chose me to be one of the 40 subscribers to join her for lunch and fun with her bestie and fellow YouTuber Samantha Reily (such a wonderful experience!), and I’m really happy I won the raffle because who doesn’t love free makeup?! But also because I never would have picked this lipstick for myself, and I.CAN’T.STOP.WEARING.IT.
First of all: the color. There’s not much I love more in life than a bright, bold lip for summer. Okay, that’s a lie, but this color is the perfect blend of orange-coral-pink, and I’m going hard with it. It’s the Vice lines’s sheer formula, which means it offers a sheen (think a sheerer-than-most satin finish), is light and comfortable, and can be built up for more opaque coverage if that’s what you’re going for. I’ll dab it on if I want just a wash of color, and I’ll layer it on if I want something bolder. It also looks great blotted for more of a matte appearance.
Like I said, I didn’t pay for this product, but I would have, and I plan to look for other colors in the sheer formula going into fall and winter. It retails for $17.

Color Description: Peachy Nude
I’ve had this lipstick longer than any of the others mentioned in this post, and it’s been a favorite since I picked it up over a year ago. I’ve worn this one with liner and without, and I honestly don’t notice much of a difference either way because it is SO CREAMY. Like, ridiculously creamy. In fact, it’s so creamy that it feels really thick on the lips. Not heavy per say, but there’s definitely a layer of product – not uncomfortable, but noticeable for sure. For that reason, I tend to reach for this lipstick a little bit less during the heat of the summer than I do in the spring and fall even though it is probably the most moisturizing and nourishing lipstick I own.
It’s also one of the most versatile lipstick colors I own. Although Meringue is described as a peachy nude, it can pull more pink or more peach depending on my other makeup, which makes it the perfect lipstick to wear if I don’t know what to wear. It really is a perfect nude.
Bite Beauty is really good at what they do: beautiful, high-quality lip products with all-natural ingredients, so I have no problem paying a higher price tag for a standout lipstick. I have the shade Radish (a beautiful deep magenta) in a sample size, and I already have my eye on a few other colors to pick up once I make a little room in my collection
I got Meringue at Sephora for $26.

Artist Tips: Satin Lipstick feels great alone or even over a matte finish for a creamy shine that’s just right when you don’t feel like going high-shine with a gloss.
NARS Orgasm: is there anything more iconic? I’ve been obsessed with the cult-classic blush for about two years now, especially during the warmer months. It’s my summer goal to looks as golden and glowy as possible all season long, and that blush gets the job done. I’m convinced it’s one of the most universally-flattering cheek colors out there.
I first heard about the summer 2017 launch with an extended Orgasm line from Young, Wild, and Polished (that girl knows her lip products!). She went on and on about this lipstick, and it looked so pretty on her that I had to have it.
Of all of the lipsticks in this post, this one is the most natural and the newest to my collection. Since purchasing it, I grab for it all the time (probably more than Coral Corruption mentioned above) because it’s light enough for the office and morning events, it goes with everything so it’s foolproof when I don’t know what I want to wear, it’s pretty enough to wear with no makeup or a full face and eyes, it’s easy to apply (no wands and you don’t even have to be that precise, and – let’s be honest – that’s important when you apply your lipstick in the car while you’re driving to wherever you need to be), and it always.looks.good. Plus, it’s so comfortable and luminous. Seriously, I can’t rave about it enough!
